Be Snake Wary This Summer
- Details
- Created on Friday, 02 October 2015 18:55
Summer can be a great time to be outdoors, however the warm weather can bring out snakes in search of food, water and shelter. We encourage residents to be snake wary and to take relevant precautions this summer.
Venomous snakes found in the Sydney region include the red-bellied black snake and the eastern brown snake. Sighting a snake can be an alarming experience, but there are steps you can take to discourage snakes from straying onto your property:
- Keep your lawns mowed and garden areas free of overgrowth
- Keep your property free of rubbish and debris
- Control rats and mice on your property
Never try to kill or capture a snake as most bites occur while attempting to do this.
All native snakes in NSW are protected under the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1974. If you find a snake on your property, call a licensed snake collector and keep an eye on the snake from a safe distance until they arrive. To contact a licensed snake collector, contact WIRES on 1300 094 737.
Spring Fair

We welcomed spring early at Harrington Grove on Sunday 30th August with our annual Harrington Grove Spring Fair!
The sun was out as adults and kids flocked to meet and greet Batman whilst they waited in line. Fairy princesses greeted eager kiddies with balloons before they ventured out onto the grounds where a carousel, mechanical bull, horizontal bungee (and much more!) awaited them.
The pie eating competition took centre stage as the contestants took the table to determine this year’s champion! Michael Pavlov was crowned the champion and in the inaugural kid’s pie challenge, Riley Nicholas took the crown!
Various activities and entertainment for kids and adults filled the day. The gym was transformed into a pamper retreat for adults looking to relax with a massage or get their hair and nails done up. The little ones didn’t miss out, with a Princess Pamper session available. Kiddie Kartz, the Lego workshop and the Kids Train ride were also a hit.
There was plenty of on-stage entertainment for the day from Mac DJ’s, Jono Collins and Luke Koteras who kept the tunes playing and the atmosphere lively.
The day was a sell out as we welcomed more than 800 hundred adults and children to our grounds. We have been thrilled by the positive feedback and wish to extend our warm thanks to all those who were a part of our day.
